Hey my friend - I don’t know if anyone’s exhibited an “irrational fear” of Ron Paul - his “ideas” are frankly stupid, but I don’t actually see him leading or even close to leading anything resembling a grassroots movement or for that matter, having any genuine impact on the GOP.

He doesn’t lead; he’s an icon. His name is getting attached to a variety of fringe movements, from libertarianism (which shouldn’t be fringe) to Gary North’s Christian shari’a (which belongs in the lower, padded wards of an asylum).

Basically everybody on the Right who feels they’re on the outside looking in, and the hucksters exploiting that sentiment, are having a grand old time swinging through the dead branches of the GOP, throwing poo and hooting “ROOON PAAAUL”.
