What’s the easiest method for skimming scum off chicken soup? I use a large ladle, but Zedushka is the one doing the soup-skimming while I’m at work and he just can’t get the hang of it. I went to Chowhound and other foodie sites, and they give very complicated instructions for boiling the chicken separately, then dumping the water, then boiling again…NO FREAKING WAY is Zedushka going to do that!

I prep the chicken soup the night before and leave it in the fridge, then all Zedushka has to do is fill the pot with water and bring it to a boil. He has to scrape off the scum that builds up.

I use a fine mesh strainer like this one to scoop it out. if you put the strainer in the freezer for a few minutes it gets very cold and when you go to scoop the excess fat in the broth will congeal and attach itself to the strainer. just rinse it off, put it back in the freezer and you’re ready to scoop again in a few minutes.
