So I talked to my brother this afternoon (deacon in an Evangelical mega church) and he is taking the kids camping this weekend for the final Boyscout outing.

Final Boyscout outing? I asked

Yes, we are switching to “Trailwise” after this, he said.

What is “Trailwise? How is it different from the Boyscouts?” I asked.

Trailwise is boys only which the Boyscouts no longer are (yes really, look it up), will not take gay scouts, and only takes evangelical Christians from a few denominations as scouts.

My brother thinks that this is a great thing, then again he thinks the rapture and the complete destruction of civilization and mankind’s limited time of self-determination would be a great thing too.

He then went on to explain how the “Trailwise” charter said that every single individual troop everywhere had to agree to any change in the organizations by-laws unanimously. He believes that therefore unlike the Boyscouts they couldn’t be sued for discrimination or not being inclusive of minorities.

He actually thinks they can just say, “well gee, we tried to change that rule but chapter 1148 in Albuquerque voted it down so we couldn’t do it.”

Don’t get me wrong, my brother is extremely intelligent, excels at strategy style games (at which he always kicked my ass as a kid) and is otherwise a liberal (scarily close to libertarian at times).

But when it comes to this “fallen and sick” world (Boyscouts, because they will now take gay scouts, really?) getting anywhere near to his kids? Forget about it…sigh… :(
