There are undoubtedly issues that are not “religious”, where conservative religion is an icing on the cake. E.g. racism and homophobia, where non-believers haven’t been any better than believers.
But with abortion, while there are anti-choice atheists, this issue so tied to the worldview notions like “personhood” that it’s very hard for me to find another general explanation other than conservative religion.

All of those things can have root in conservative religion’s ideas about personhood, namely, the idea that I’m God’s Favorite so I get to kick you around, at will. At least, in the west.
