Some years ago, I read about the whole thing in a National Geographic series on the Mongols. They were pretty fair in their treatment of the subject. It really gives a sense of perspective, when you look at “imperialist Amerika”, how un-ambitious we really are compared to the great empires of Eurasia (and Eurafrica, but that’s a horse of a different color).
