Somalia: Al Shabaab issues fatwa about TV

MOGADISHU, June 9, 2010 (Mareeg)—al Shabaab militants have issued Wednesday “Islamic Fatwa” about Universal TV and its staff.

Al Shabaab accused the London-based Somali language broadcaster of showing clips of cartoons allegedly offending Prophet Muhammed.

The correspondent of the TV in south Africa Abdullahi Ibrahim Dasar used as a background a cartoon showed by the Mail & Guardian Newspaper in south Africa on 29 May, 2010 in his report about an anger of the Muslims in South Africa.

“No one can forgive the reporter, the cameraman, the management of the TV and everyone else that participated showing the abusive cartoon to the Prophet,” said the Fatwa.

Al Shabaab called the killing of the reporter and also the managers of Universal TV.
