re: #4 Bulworth

Not that I want to give the crazies any more ideas, but I do wonder why when it comes to punishing abortion, the rightwing only goes after the doctors. Wouldn’t the “individual responsibility” doctrine imply that women obtaining abortions were equally liable, if not more so?

I’m sure part of the reason for this approach is they know how unpopular it would be (at the same time, going after the doctors would seem to contradict the GOP’s “don’t let the government get in between the doctor and his/her patient” opposition to health care). The other part of the reason probably has to do with the fact that for the anti-abortion crowd, women really don’t have any “agency” or responsibility.

One thing at a time, first they will criminalize the doctors and then when that fails to stop the now illegal abortions they will start prosecuting only the unmarried women that get them. Don’t underestimate them, they aren’t completely stupid. First ban the procedure while also working to again ban contraception, then once that is done begin to prosecute all the “whores” who attempt to terminate pregnancies conceived out of wedlock. Only then will the “upright christian” married woman who have supported all of this learn that they too will be going to jail if they attempt to prevent or remove an unwanted pregnancy.
