Repeat: if these people want us to respect and support their new “democracies”, then they need to start getting used to the way we do democracy in the west: separation of church and state, freedom of speech and artistic expression.

If they are trying to achieve democracy without respecting the latter, they are not going to get very far.

You mean like Poland? Or would that be like our second largest ally in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia. No protests there. Like that?
