re: #66 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds

I may find it disturbing, but it also fails to evoke any sympathy in me for the man. Would I have preferred that he stand trial for his actions and be shown before the world as the monster he is? Yes. But was I there, having suffered for decades under his rule, living in constant fear of his regime? No.

Saddam was lucky that we were leading the charge in Iraq. My guess is, had Iraqi rebels who’d been the victims of his regime had found him, we’d be scraping him up with a spork still.

For me it’s more on a visceral level. I’m not thinking of the man Gaddafi when I see this. I’m seeing a human being dragged in the middle of the dirt being shot at, having his throat cut, and squealing like a pig being slaughtered.

Had I grown up as one of the rebels I would have even considered this and acted otherwise. But how many times must we continue to sacrifice another man in the quest for peace? I not another man dead one too many? Would I have done as the rebels here.

Do I understand? In great part mind you because while I say this I’m not thinking about “war crimes” and prosecuting anyone. It may be cultural chauvinism on my part. Maybe I’m wrong there who knows.
