As for making it personal, she lied. She lied with confidence. That is an appropriate time make it personal since it was wrong for her to do it. I make things like this personal all the time, but only in the context of the error. When DI’ers come in here circulating the same old debunked crap, when they know for a fact that it is crap, it is appropriate to call into question/accuse them of being insincere, lying, disingenuous, frauds. The issue wasn’t a disagreement of opinion; that was what was happening in the discussion with austin. I disagreed with her, and only the topics were discussed. Ice started a new topic, grounded in an easily outed lie/distortion, and it is appropriate to clarify that she was wrong; her tone set mine.

You jumped in and called her a liar without asking for clarification first. And I’m also of the opinion that throwing out insults like you is not something to be done in an argument. Iceweasel attacked Ayn Rand, and you replied by attacking iceweasel.
