Look, I like very simple graphs. Before humans started burning mined fuel (oil, coal, and natural gas), the world had been oscillating in a naturally occurring cycle of glaciation events, more than likely caused by long-wave sun cycles.

Here’s a graph of past temperatures and CO2 levels:

The fact is that in the 70’s and early 80’s, it looked we were overdue for a glaciation cycle. Temperatures were at or near historic highs, and CO2 levels were very high. The problem was, we had forced gigatons of CO2 into the atmosphere, to levels not seen for millions of years and they were increasing rapidly. The question became:

“What is this forcing mechanism doing to *natural* earth cycles absent the influence of man?”

That question started modern climate research and modeling. The fact is, you can’t argue the science any more. It’s happening and we are responsible. You can attack the scientists, or you can fucking do something about it. I would prefer to keep the Gulf Coast and the eastern seaboard as viable economic centers in this country.

Industry claims that thousands of jobs and billions of dollars would be lost if we switched over to a green energy economy. But that pales in comparison to what will *surely* be lost if climate predictions are correct.
