re: #70 HappyWarrior

I think he is unique in that he seems to have contempt for the very idea of representative government. I didn’t get that vibe with Bush, McCain, or even Romney. You are right though that the media ignored a lot about him that should have been called out. Cory Booker being a vegan got more negative feedback than Trump belittling a disabled reporter.

Except you definitely see that open contempt in Congress even now with folks like McConnell. It’s not a new thing, it’s just that the GOP just stumbled on someone brazen enough to find out that their presidential candidates didn’t even need to make those kind of paeans anymore.

Trump is a media star and got the Media Star treatment. Few other politicians ever got that.

I recall all the outlets spent the best part of an hour showing an empty podium waiting for Trump to come out and give lame excuses about how his charity spent its money while Hillary was giving a speech about better employment opportunities for the handicapped.

McCain wasn’t the multimedia non-political star in the same way, but he got the same sort of fawning in a lot of ways after the fact. The fact that his brand was built on a different ‘virtue’ didn’t change that he got the same kind of preferential, deferential treatment, if not on the same scale.
