If I recall correctly the police force was to cover it’s seminary and school campus. Lot’s of private universities have actual police forces. My university certainly did.

This is Briarwood Presbyterian Church (PCA, a conservative Presbyterian denom). The church does not have a seminary. It has a school on two campuses with 1,800 students. The fear expressed with allowing Briarwood to have its own police force is that the police would have yet another reason to suppress bad behavior (read: child sexual abuse) getting out to the public. But they still got it.

IIRC (possibly, and probably not), wasn’t the AL “Church Police” law a matter of legally redefining such forces as official “police/law-enforcement” vs. their previous status as “private security” or something? IOW, allowing them the official latitude to arrest people, etc.?
