re: #56 _RememberTonyC

My Senator (Joe Lieberman) is being treated very poorly here in liberal Connecticut. The venom directed at him by the editorial writers as well as the letters from the public is quite nauseating. Lieberman has a lot of political courage and is a man who has damn good judgment in my opinion. But because he dares to buck the Democrat party and its reflexive need to support the Obama/Reid/Pelosi health care plan, he is villified on a daily basis. So I think it is useful to remember that the far right did NOT write the book when it comes to poor treatment of dissenters. I agree 100% with Charles that the level of vitriol from the far right is frightening and should be condemned without reservation. But it is also wrong to assume that ONLY the far right indulges in poor political behavior.

There’s a huge difference between calling someone a flipflopper or having vitriol for going against what he was previously for (Lieberman) and calling for him to be killed or for a violent revolution. Politics is vitriolic. If you are hurt by political name calling then it’s not a good sport for you. The ‘veneom’ being directed at him is non violent and political in nature. It’s to be expected if you go against what you campaigned on.
