Cleopatra was more nearly “white” than Jesus. Wikipedia’s article, with photo of a bust of her, along with photos of various coins of her day which included images of her in profile. Her ancestry was part Macedonian, part Egyptian. The Romans, long accustomed to including parts of North Africa into their Empire, would not have felt her as much an alien and an outsider as if she had been German.
