I agree with you about this: mocking Michelle Obama’s looks won’t win over any converts. That’s the least of our problems. We must focus on substance. Obama is very smart, very charming, and very dangerous, politically speaking. We must respect those qualities.

He’s not an empty suit. He won an election against two formidable opponents. I think the “empty suit” is an illusion he deliberately projects that masks a deeper, darker persona. We do ill to underestimate our adversaries, particularly in a climate where the Republicans can be blamed for the economic crisis.
