That’s what they’re saying. The UK had designated English as their choice of official language for the EU because it was theirs. Without the UK, they’re going to have to somehow change their charter to still include English as an official EU language because it’s so widely used. Under the current rules, member nations each designate a language.

I suppose if Scotland breaks free and joins the EU on its own the issue is moot. They could designate English as their choice of language. Or the EU will settle it before then. We’ll see.
