re: #69 Dr. Teddy’s Person

Yesterday, I put out a try of bird seed on my balcony and 3-4 chickedess came around. Today, some Stellar Jays (cousins of the Blue Jay) came calling, and I thought that they’d chase away the chickadees. But no, they seem to be taking turns. A couple of Jays will feast then go away. A short time later, the chickadees will be back. Avian sharing is a balm for my soul.

It’ll be fine until the English sparrows show up.

I put up a hanging tray of golden safflower about a month ago and I’m getting chickadees, cardinals, house sparrows, nuthatches, goldfinches and one blue jay, but it’s also getting mobbed by the English sparrows, a bird so rotten that a MN DNR book about birding says to go ahead and kill them if you have too many.
