My point is anyone (even local governments) can hire IT expertise. Skype gives up an IP. IP’s can be ghosted, but that’s another level of skills. I just don’t see this as iossarian seems to.

I wasn’t really commenting on whether the problem is or isn’t solvable by local law enforcement, the FBI, Cagney and Lacy or anyone else. I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the “party of small government” escalating these fairly trivial matters to the level of ZOMG NATIONAL SECURITY GET CONGRESS INVOLVED.
