I can agree with that.

What I don’t understand is the seeming hatred of Capitalism on one side and the knee-jerk rage against Socialism on the other.

As system is only as good as the humans involved.

There aren’t two sides. That’s one of the main problems is that the two-party division in this country makes everyone really fall into the whole ‘left/right’ bullshit. There are some groups that hate capitalism, some hate it because they’re fanatically religious, some hate it because they’re hardcore communists, some hate it because they’re dictators, etc. And most of those who hate socialism can’t define it.

A system’s ultimate limit, in both directions, is the humans inside it. It can be no better than they are, and a bad system is often redeemed by individual humans. But that doesn’t meant that the form of the system itself isn’t incredibly important. It is. An obviously unbalanced system, like raw capitalism, will lead to obviously imbalanced results, just as it would in the same ‘natural’ system. If you don’t want parasites, you need to set up a system that can actually defend against parasites. You can never eradicate them, but you can at least keep their numbers down. And if you don’t, a devastation can occur in the ecology of the economy.
