Back in its heyday, the Soviet Union had such concepts as “politically correct vegetables.” Cabbage for example was a righteous veggie for Reds because it yielded a high nutritional value relative to the resources put into producing it. Lettuce, on the other hand, was a bourgeois affectation and therefore subversive.
Wingnuts remind me of this when they start finding not just political significance, but conscious political intent, in nearly everything.
