Sorry: as much as I generally like Adam Schiff and his Twitter ripostes to GOP crap, I think he’s a bit off on this one: the US’ “role as a champion of human rights” has always been a highly specific and situational one: said situation normally being whether or not the HR “offender” is a US ally or not. Or whether or not the victims of HR abuses are deemed to have “deserved it”: usually for some ideological insufficiency. The Trump Admin’s policy really doesn’t seem that much different, just - as typical for Trump badly-articulated to the point of imbecility.
