Actually, I suspect Santorum of being pretty smart, and knowing rather a lot about many useful things.

Were I a Republican, my concern about him would be solely—but this is a deal-breaker—the incredible depths of callous and self-pitying social conservatism that he brings with him.

That and the fact that he sometimes looks like a twelve-year-old boy who’s being bullied by the other candidates. The idea of him handling a three AM call with that ‘deer in headlights’ expression makes me nervous.
