I think he panders to bigotry more than being an actual bigot himself. See, him continuing to hangout with birther bigot Trump.

Pandering or genuine bigotry makes little difference to me if he’s making policy.

We do have the gay-bashing incident as well, though. I suspect he’s the kind of guy who doesn’t really mind if other people get crapped on by society, which is a kind of pathetic soft bigotry itself.
