I remember the Satanic Panic in the mid 80s whipped up by Geraldo Rivera which climaxed here in Los Angeles with the McMartin preschool trial which turned out to be a goddamned farce. Thankfully the radical Xtian DA who brought the case was unseated in the 1984 election and the idiot prosecutor failed several times to get elected to a judicial slot.

In the same vein, I remember the Judas Priest trials. Two boys commit suicide and the parents blamed the band for satanical lyrics and the like. They went so far as to analyze Rob’s signature 2-octave pitch rise at the end of a line as some sort of demonic hailing. Fortunately, the case ended in the band’s favor.
