It becomes a massive issue whenever a naval mine starts cuddling with an oil pipeline. I’ll be watching to see what they do to fix this. It could be interesting.
Usually, mines are blown in place. German mines had anti-disturbance devices to prevent them from being defused and examined. They often quite sophisticated devices, and the Germans did not want the British analyzing them. The Royal Navy took the threat of mine warfare so seriously that whole destroyer flotillas were fitted with Two Speed Destroyer Sweep (TSDS) minesweeping gear instead of sonar prior to WWII.
