Myanmar’s human rights record is exponentially worse than Israel’s, but they get less than 1/10 the criticism. Half the African countries, half the Central American countries, and several Asian countries, have human rights records that are exponentially worse than Israel’s, but they also get less than 1/10 the criticism.

There’s a pretty extreme double standard at play in what inspires criticism of the world’s only Jewish regime.

Myanmar isn’t the root of the tree of three religions. Israel is the spiritual home to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. All can trace their existence and key events to the same few square miles (and that’s literally true - the Old City of Jerusalem is a few square miles).

Israel occupies an outsized fascination in the media and reporting, and there is a double standard where Israeli misconduct is treated far worse than say China’s mistreatment. Decades of war/conflict with the Palestinians doesn’t help nor does decades of mistrust, propaganda, and a failure of leaders to make the hard decisions to seek peace - or carry through on it.
