This highlights another reason American Muslims must assert influence on Muslims from regions/regimes where politics co-opts religious expression and influence.

This thing is just wrong on so many levels. I understand from the article that whatever legal loopholes existed that allowed this to happen have been or are being closed, but still…what kind of loophole would allow such a thing? And wouldn’t a court at this level have some powers of freaking discretion they could exercise?
