I do believe you’re right about that Obama being the beneficiary of the Celebrity Culture. Of course, it helped his celebrity status that he was the first Black man ever to run for POTUS but not as much as the fact that, apparently, a helluva lot of Americans really DO want a Nanny State.
That’s one of the most depressing aspects of his victory.
