That line of thinking could have some strange consequences. E.g., if any private entity accepting federal funding is subject to the full bill of rights, there would appear to be no way for said entity to police its premises to get rid of undesirable expressions of free speech (e.g., Westboro Baptist comes to Stanford to stay).
That already happened to Vassar, this is how they responded:
In any event, an expression of rights by a student enrolled in an institution is on far stronger legal ground than an external protest by unrelated third parties.
