As for the “Bernie Bro” phenomenon, from my uneducated and very isolated position it looks a lot more like people who have neither any clue how electoral politics work, or perhaps are not even liberal/Democratic voters in the first place (“rodent copulators” to use Senator Cruz’s term).

I think this is a very small segment. But it does exist. And I think they do support Sanders. But these are guys who used Sanders as a shield to unleash their own misogyny. And what didn’t help is that much more moderate Sanders supporters couldn’t believe that fellow supporters could be that douchey, and gave them cover for a long time.
