Looked at Ms Palmer’s stuff over at her Berkley page as well as her twitter feed. There is a reason why I have little patience with sociology.

Ongoing colonization of indigenous peoples (and she means right here)?

That’s one thing if you want to talk about settlers on the West Bank. It’s something else entirely when you try to say America is a colonial state that is still colonizing indigenous people in the present day. Talk about cultural appropriation all you like, but this is where academia really does jump off the rails and make an easy target for National Review and Ben Shapiro.

I should also note that this kind of framing makes it far easier for race baiting conservatives like Orban in Europe to claim that the dusky hoards are “colonizing” them.
