Why do you hate America American plumbing?

I don’t know… fashionable I guess?

Really, the first time I went to Europe, I stated to actually pay attention to the toilet and bathroom “culture” there. I was fascinated by the environmental innovations of the fixtures and toilets, even down to the timed lighting in some restrooms.

The FIRST bathroom I ever used in Europe was at a cafe, we had arrived at the airport, when to our hotel and hit the streets right away for lunch.

I went into the restroom at this cafe, turned on the light and sat down. About 3 minutes later the light went off. Pitch black, no windows to an alley or something, and the light switch was not with in arms reach.

Didn’t realize at that moment that you will find numerous types of lighting innovations there designed to save resources. Zoned lighting that turns off and on as you move from one part of the house to another, timed lighting, all sorts of technology.

I stumbled around until I found the switch, and quickly finished up before it went out again.

Ask me about the fist unisex restroom I encountered?
