re: #70 The War TARDIS

It should also be noted, of the three Turkic Gunpowder Empires (Ottomans, Safavids, Mughals), the Mughals were the one who had issues with Religious Tolerance the most.

Iran is the Time Lord of nations, able to adapt over time. And the Ottomans got to where they were by being relatively open.

The Mughals were like that for a time, but Aurangzeb was intolerant to a stupid extent.

Aurangzeb was a zealot and he was also too ambitious by half. Unlike previous Mughal rulers he had to conquer all the land in India he could seize, regardless of the costs or if his empire could effectively garrison its holdings. The result was Hindu revolts beginning in Aurangzeb’s old age that rapidly crippled the Mughal empire.

That Aurangzeb lived as long as he did didn’t help either. He lived into his late 70’s, and his eldest sons were in their 50’s when he died, meaning that his successor was comparatively weak and short-reigning.
