That wasn’t the big ticket item in the charges.

Bayoneting them when they couldn’t march fast enough after surrendering at Bataan was a bigger issue.

Starving them to death in the POW camps was a bigger issue.

Beating them to death for trivial infractions of camp rules, or just for kicks, was a bigger issue.

There wasn’t any need to bring up treatments that didn’t lead to death or permanent disability. By the time we got done talking about the beatings, the floggings, the starvation, and the really gory stuff, we could rest our case.

I don’t like false equations. Both things are in the same category, but as to degree, there’s a big difference.

We still none the less hagned people for waterboarding.
