Bad things happen. If you have a plan, and some savings, friends & family, then hopefully they will get overcome. There are always unexpected happenings. I was referring more, to folks who don’t plan & save for the future.Do you have an emergency fund? Life is full of emergencies, and a LOT easier if you have some cash saved, to deal with one.

Dear friend, is about to declare bankruptcy.
Lived to his means the past 10 years. Made GREAT money. Didn’t save a dime.
Thought this would last forever.
Recently admitted to me, that his business, really was a hobby.
That is very sad.

I have an emergency fund yes, but at the moment I’m lucky in that I have a loving family who is willing to help support me as I act like an idiot and work for a start up company that only has enough money to “pay” me in IOUs that will get cashed before the company can pay its stock holders any profits and cover my travel expenses.

Yes there are people who live beyond their means, but is the way to deal with this to punish them by forcing them to raise their children without enough money to get by?

If you do that you will only increase people’s resentment toward their children and end up creating more abuse/abortions/putting kids up for adoptions.

Do you want to live in a world where only families with a financially secure bedrock foundation can afford to raise children?
