No offense taken. Many autistic people also have mental health issues along with autism. My son’s best friend is bipolar and has Aspergers. Another friend has a son on the spectrum that has schizophrenia. Co-morbidities. My son has depression and anxiety disorder and has Aspergers. Humans and their brains are complicated.

Did you know the early cases of people with severe Autism, before it was classified and beginning to be understood, were thought to be Schizophrenic?

Many ended up in institutions, which is really sad now that more is known about them.

I can’t imagine either my friend’s now 24 year old son, or my next door neighbor’s 14 year old son institutionalized.

Mental institutions as they were in the past were some of man’s worst creations ever.
