The stories I’ve seen sort of hint that he was captured some time ago. This is pretty typical - you don’t want the other side to know you’ve got one of theirs until you’ve pumped him for all the intelligence you can get, because they’ll change their plans and scatter the moment they know or suspect. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that he’s been held for quite some time, and whatever actionable intelligence he might have had has already been exploited.
