I think Charles is on the right track here. He is pointing out that certain undesirable individuals and groups (Back, Discovery Institute, Ron Paul supporters) have taken the discourse on the right to a area where we do not want to be if we are to ever have a legitimate chance of winning elections in any great number. We on the right need to define ourselves not in extreme right of social conservatism, (i.e. opposing gay marriage, abortion, fundamentalist beliefs to an extreme degree) but as individuals who believe that is not the state’s business who we live with, that the bedroom is not a place to legislate, that the people are sovereign, not the Government. We need to show that we oppose crushing taxes, state and federal interference in the lives of our citizens, misguided nanny statism in the name of the environment, that we believe freedom and democracy is the way. We need to have the Iron Fist inside the velvet glove, not be afraid to crush terrorism and piracy where-ever it may rear its ugly head, support our allies to the extreme of our limits, slap down our foes foreign and domestic, secure our innovation and our nation, and dedicate our outlook to a United States that recognizes our foundations, honors them, and leads itself, and hopefully others, by standing to firm to the principles that made this nation grand, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
