Meanwhile in McAllen TX (rio grande valley) they want to equip each of the 25,000 students with an Apple iPAD at a cost of 20 million.
Now obviously this is a very different socioeconomic group, but I question the wisdom of this.

That’s more of a PR campaign on the part of Apple. Obviously it’s not free given the price tag. IMO we over emphasize the use of computers in this society particularly in education. We spend a lot of money with hardware purchases, software, IT, maintenance, electricity, etc. But what it does is it create a crutch for people.
