One of my white students got the hell beat out of her by some black girls from another school. It was racially motivated. It was also gang-related.

You know what? She was scared and upset and really mad, but she didn’t turn it into an excuse to be paranoid about all the black people in her life who were good people. And she was fifteen, and had really had something awful happen to her.
