Japanese interned during WWII. Some who were kids at the time and the children of internees. The latter often hadn’t heard much about it from the parents who just wanted to forget the whole thing.

Huh. Thought redress was a big enough thing in the 80s that everybody got the word (there was enough concern about passing along internment money that it was fairly well known in the community).

More recent Chinese immigrants sometimes are being pretty damn selfish, using the “Asian American” term for the bigger numbers for political clout, but totally ignoring the needs of SE Asians because they don’t want to be bothered by them. (Not to mention sabotaging efforts of earlier Chinese Americans that helped create that alliance).
