25,000 iPads at 25 million is 800 dollars per iPad.
Of course this will probably mean hiring another administrator for $150,000/year. Double that for benefits, retirement, etc.
Actually the cost is 20.5 million not 25…but still.
In some respects the cost is not a major issue…IF it could replace the cost of text books. The cost of text books are astronomical. As a parent of a child who seemed to constantly lose his, I am all to aware of the replacement cost.
Also, these are for the most part very poor kids, who are behind in technology. So I can see the program as an experiment. But at a time when most school budgets in TX are being slashed, teachers being cut…it just seems out of place right now.
