so in the past couple of days i’ve been peeking into the crabbed little universe of anti semitic obsessives. there is of course the usual panoply of holocaust denial, world jewish control of finance and media theories, and “exposure” of any sins ever committed in the history of israel, but there were a few details that were new to me:

1) “hasbara” - a hebrew word meaning ‘to explain’, that in modern israel has come to mean casting israel in the best possible light by, essentially, whitewashing. but in the anti semite internet troll community any challenge to them, even if the state of israel is nowhere to be found in the issue at hand, draws the reflexive response “you hasbara troll!”

2) how to be both a bible-believing “christian” but at the same time think jews are the scum of the earth: well, it turns out that the real enemy is not all jews, but almost entirely ashkenazim (like myself). and according to them, ashkenazim are 100% descended from the khazars, the 9th-10th century kingdom located roughly where western kazakhstan is today, whose ruling class famously converted to judaism. if you can ignore the difficulties this popular theory runs into in regard to facts, history, and stuff, then, presto, ashkenazim are not the descendants of the people who wrote the bible. that honor then belongs exclusively to the sephardim, who are, as my correspondant informed me, “less devious”

oh - i forgot to add - they are not “anti-semites”. oh no! they want to be called “counter-semites”
