He is indeed a stud Hoops. In Vietnam he was a Medic riding those LARGE, SLOW, LOUD Hueys into LZ’s that were extraordinarily HOT and he helped get badly wounded guys out of there (a “Medevac”)! Told me one time when they returned their chopper had over 300 bullet holes in it and I believe them. Those big stupid Red Crosses on ‘em were just targets for Charlie.
Then he became a EMT and is still a Search and Rescue Guy. Salt of the earth he is, saved probably hundreds of lives in Vietnam and Lord knows how many back here. I have ENORMOUS respect for all combat medics, but Dustoff-057 (his call sign) was one of the best of the best. He really is a true hero.
But don’t y’all go saying I told you all about that!
