Ari, if he was going to do that, the time to do it was before he got up before the press and bellowed that nobody in his office had had anything to do with the whole affair. In fact, he might have saved himself a lot of grief in the beginning by agreeing to cooperate with the investigation and pressing the Port Authority to do so as well, rather than allowing things to drag on in the hopes that all the stonewalling would make the matter go away.

The fact that he did nothing earlier like what you suggest tells me he had the closures done, thought it was funny then and thought he could blow by it all. Now he has found himself trapped and he is not going to go down easily. He may have known a real investigation was going to be a problem.

As many have already said, it is the cover-up that always brings the big problems.
