I do not have a lot of trouble with the thought of the country ending the century a lot differently than it was when the century started. We have to get over the Cold War and the post-Cold-War neo-con delusions of grandeur that we could endure as the world’s sole superpower.

We need to stop measuring our progress and prosperity in terms of how many resources we consume, we need to stop measuring military strength in terms of how much we spend on defense and we need to stop measuring law & order in terms of how many people we incarcerate.

I was speaking to the participatory democratic notion.

Of course, to have a fruitful democracy, you must have people who are educated to that notion and to the inclusiveness of a diversity in population. Every single person is important to it.
