The guy who works at our corner store is working to get his citizenship. I was passing the time watching some idiots on a quiz show completely botch question on US history and government that he was nailing every time.

“I’ve been here 5 years. They were born here. What is there excuse?”

Being born here means no effort is required for citizenship. Something that wingnuts et al. should be reminded of, frequently.
