re: #803 Dustyvet

I was just thinking, that at the age of 61, I have two memories that I’ll take to the grave with me. November 22, 1963, I was in an 8th grade math class, and September 11, 2001, I had just cut the grass, and came into the house just in time to see the second airliner hit the WTC on TV…

Same here. I am 10 years older than you, and was pregnant with our first child, living in my native Boston, as NY Grampa was stationed at the now-defunct Boston Army Base. On that horrific November day, I had the radio on, and a bulletin came in re President Kennedy having been shot. BTW, he was my first presidential vote, as you had to be 21 in those days to vote…I then turned the TV on, and saw Walter Cronkite taking off his glasses and announcing the death of our President.

It did not sink in at first, but when it did, I called my husband…the Army Base did not know yet! He was sent home, as were the others. Why, I do not know.

I spent days crying…long story. It is seared in my brain. From then on, I dated everything before and after the assassination…..until the morning of 9/11. We had 3 kids and a daughter in law working in the city, and I honestly can’t remember certain things..I was in shock, and seeing it on TV? Live and in color? I know I screamed when the second plane went in, and my husband came running out to see what was wrong. I pointed at the TV, speechless.

I am not going to go into the details, except that thank G-d the kids were all OK, physically. It is always in our minds, and my husband and I have not been in the city since..we are in the suburbs.

If a plane going into La Guardia seems to be flying too low? I still get scared.

Now, everything is dated after 9/11 in my mind, and I fear like I have not since a few months after that with Hussein in the White House, we are again in danger of another 9/11, G-d forbid. I do not think he has what it takes, and his Cabinet and VP? Horrific, and not fit in any way to be a post-9/11 government.
