re: #853 Dark_Falcon

Actually, Ludwig, I’d argue we still don’t have the sulfur. The far-right still has no charismatic leader to really rally around. Without that, even with a spark, their threat is much less.

You know, I’d argue we really have no idea what we have. Not to scare monger, but there’s really no way to say there isn’t some super charismatic leader out in a barn somewhere giving amazingly passionate speeches on white nationalism, just waiting to make their way onto youtube.

But, this is true in every nation, always has been always will be. Problem is the first part of the equation, mixing, is now much easier than before. Thanks to the internet, cheap video production, etc. This genie is out of the bottle. Have the parts mixed? Maybe, maybe not. The ratios aren’t right yet at the very least. Or maybe we are lacking parts. Who knows?

The spark we can, and do need to control. Not to say we should play to fear, but I do think we need to keep people from getting truly desperate. A majority of people have no desire to be Nazis. But, many would rather be comfortable Nazis than watch their family starve. Making sure Nationalism and Racism, ideas like “We’d be fine if it wasn’t for those damn foreigners taking your job. Those blacks unable to pay back loans. Those jews stealing our money through the fed. The gays ruining our families and the left destroying our economy” do not get a foothold in the American consciousness is vital.

Its also important that we don’t focus on one ideology or side of the political spectrum. If the Tea Party fails, and the economy gets worse, there’s no reason why a laid off union couldn’t be the group to turn violent. Again, just an example.

But I suspect I’m already preaching to the choir.
